금요일 오후,
한국어가 자라는 시간
Friday afternoons,
when Korean grows

엘리콧 시티 한국학교는 베다니 한인연합감리교회가 2015년부터 운영하는 교회 부설 한국학교입니다. 미국에서 자라는 아이들이 한국어로 생각하고, 가족과 이야기하고, 뿌리를 자랑스러워하도록 돕습니다.Ellicott City Korean Academy has been run by Bethany Korean United Methodist Church since 2015. We help children growing up in America think and speak in Korean, talk with family, and take pride in their roots.

교장 인사말A word from our principal

아이 한 명 한 명이 저마다의 속도로 자라도록.So that every child can grow at their own pace.

Welcome to Ellicott City Korean Academy.

Our children are growing up in America, yet we hope they will talk with their grandparents in Korean and grow up proud of Korean culture and history.

Within the embrace of Bethany Korean United Methodist Church, we learn Hangul, sing and play together every Friday.

Just as a seed sprouts and bears fruit, our teachers will walk beside each child so they can grow at their own pace.

반 이름은 씨앗에서 열매, 그리고 태극까지 자라는 성장 단계를 따릅니다. 나이보다 아이의 한국어 수준에 맞춰 반을 정합니다.Class names follow a path of growth — from seed to fruit, and finally Taegeuk. Placement depends on your child's Korean level rather than age.

집에서 한국어 쓰는 여섯 가지 방법Six ways to use Korean at home

일주일에 한 번 수업보다, 매일 5분이 더 큰 힘이 됩니다.Five minutes a day goes further than one class a week.

    1. 하루 한 문장, 오늘 대시보드로One sentence a day

홈의 ‘부모님 한마디’를 저녁 식탁에서 한 번만 써 보세요.Try the “For parents” sentence on the home page once at dinner.

    2. 금요일 저녁 질문 하나One Friday question

“오늘 한국학교에서 뭐 배웠어?” 아이가 선생님이 되게 해 주세요.Ask “What did you learn today?” and let your child be the teacher.

    3. 틀려도 끝까지 들어 주기Listen to the end

고쳐 주기보다 “그렇구나!” 하고 같은 말을 바르게 다시 말해 주세요.Instead of correcting, say “I see!” and repeat it back correctly.

    4. 할머니·할아버지와 영상통화Video-call grandparents

한국어를 써야 하는 진짜 이유가 생기면 아이가 먼저 말하고 싶어 해요.A real reason to speak Korean makes kids want to talk.

    5. 한글 그림책 10분10 minutes of picture books

잠들기 전 짧은 그림책 한 권. 읽어 주기만 해도 충분합니다.One short Korean picture book at bedtime — just reading aloud is enough.

    6. 나의 나무를 함께 키우기Grow the tree together

하루 3문제 퀴즈를 같이 풀고 도장을 모아 보세요. 연속 기록이 동기가 됩니다.Do the 3-question quiz together each day — the streak becomes motivation.
